MyHonda +
The automotive giant’s first connected car app.
What Honda needed
Honda asked Great State to build the company’s first connected car app, putting a digital key and much more on the owner’s phone. The key goals of the app are to increase customer retention and to develop a platform to generate new income opportunities for Honda.
What we did
The requirements of the programme were initially quite vague, so the vision was refined over time. Honda operates a federated development model, asking agencies to collaborate on projects and combine workstreams when necessary. On the Honda Telematics project, we work with IBM and Digitas.
With IBM, we’ve worked to understand the capabilities of various technical systems they’re developing on a global level, learning how we can use them to deliver against European-specific objectives. As hardware limitations became apparent, we helped Honda evaluate ways to mitigate them through better UX and signposting, as well as suggesting improvements.
The outcome
The My Honda+ app launched in line with the roll-out of the Honda e in Europe in 2020. It allows owners of selected Honda cars to use and share their vehicle with just their phone, while other features improve: safety, through stolen vehicle tracking and digital roadside support; convenience, as various aspects of the vehicle – including the charging status of an EV – can be checked remotely; control, with owners able to send navigation to their vehicle, and remotely control or schedule the temperature of their car; and servicing, via a link to Honda’s Electronic Vehicle Health Check platform.
